About Us

Committed to Excellence

McKinstry Stauffer Yang Construction is a high-end residential and commercial construction company that has developed a reputation for excellence throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Over the past 40 years, we have remained committed to our values of honesty, integrity, and respect. We specialize in quality craftsmanship and the careful stewardship of our clients’ investment. From the first meeting to the final punch list, we love the challenge of each project, working with clients and changing people’s lives for the better. We are exceedingly vigilant in organizing and tracking the many decisions that are vital to the success of the project. Our goal is to always make the process engaging and enjoyable for everyone.

Many of our team members have design backgrounds, allowing us to work alongside architects and owners to collaborate with a strong collective knowledge in design execution. We can assist with design services or the process of recommending and selecting the appropriate architect or designer.

Leadership

For over four decades, Joe McKinstry has led the way, set the tone, and built a culture of respect, stewardship, and success for the company. Working alongside Joe to maintain these values, owners Billy Stauffer and Wes Yang now lead the company into its fifth decade and beyond.

Joseph McKinstry
Founder and Owner

Joe, a third generation Seattle native, formed the Joseph McKinstry Construction Company (JMCC) in 1977. With a resume of successful projects that runs the gamut, from tiny bathroom remodels to rustic lodge retreats, the company’s award-winning work has spanned the geography and generations that make up the Pacific Northwest over the past 40 years. In 2017, Joe invited Billy Stauffer and Wes Yang to join JMCC as full partners and co-owners of the company.

Joe is committed to giving back to the community where he lives and works. He currently serves as construction advisor to Rainier Valley Food Bank as they build a new facility in the south end of Seattle. He is also on the Board of Directors for the UW Burke Museum and, in that capacity, serves as Co-Chair of its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee. Joe also served as President of Mt. Baker Community Club, and with his family volunteered with Habitat for Humanity Jimmy Carter Work Projects throughout the world (South Africa, Hungary, Haiti, Kentucky, New York, Eastside Seattle, and more.)
